WWE Wrestlemania 27: Predict the Main Events

This is the time of year that it is said WWE starts contemplating their Wrestlemania main events. Seeing as that is approaching (and since it is a slow news week), I would like to play the prediction game.

First of all, we have to look at what has become the most important part of Wrestlemania in the last two years, The Undertaker’s undefeated streak. Around this time last year rumors began to swirl about Undertaker vs John Cena happening at Wrestlemania, but that was before Shawn Michaels decided to end his career by going after the streak one more time. Naturally, the choice for Wrestlemania would seem to be Cena, but I believe that it should be Sheamus.

Think about it, he has been made to be the most dominant heel in a long time. Already in his career he holds victories over John Cena, Triple H and Randy Orton. He is a fantastic promo and could put over this program well. It would be a nice break from the face vs face matches that have headlined Undertaker’s past two Wrestlemania appearances. While it could be a forgone conclusion that ‘Taker would win, it could be conceivable that Sheamus would end the streak and use that as the ultimate feather in his cap.

As far as World Championship matches I see John Cena going into Wrestlemania as the WWE Champion. In my own ideal world he is defending that title against The Miz (who will be cashing in his Money in the Bank). I realize that this is a bold pick, especially since it implies that The Miz will hold on to the briefcase until then. I believe that WWE is slowly building up Miz’s credibility for an event just like this. I think that this match will be a little difficult on WWE’s part since they like the face to go over at the biggest show of the year, but this is their chance to really turn The Miz into their star of the future.

In Smackdown’s World Heavyweight Championship match I see Randy Orton trying to conquer the brand against Champion Edge. To me, it is the right time for both of these men to be moved to Smackdown where they will not be lower level players, but the wrestlers that Smackdown is built around. This will be a fitting conclusion to the rivalry that they started this past year on Raw that quickly fizzled out because of Orton’s injury. I see both of these men moving to Smackdown once the switch to SyFy happens. I know that this is contrary to my saying that Randy Orton should have won the WWE Championship as Summerslam, but I believe that since he did not win there, he should be the face of Smackdown.

In the undercard I would love to see CM Punk, Kofi Kingston and Jack Swagger featured prominently. I do not know where they fit in, but I see the aforementioned championship matches being fairly important to keep as one on one. I would love to see Triple H in the ring against CM Punk. They have really fun styles that could mesh well. I do not know where the other two men fit in, but I hope in roles larger than something like Money in the Bank.

Speaking of MITB, I hope that it will not be featured on this show. Since WWE started the MITB pay per view they should make sure that the match is reserved for that occasion, since it was a feature and not a selling point of ‘Mania.
