A new upstart wrestling promotion has ran into a “snag” that has delayed its debut. A group in Florida headed by independent promoter Sean Davis (and one half of the tag team The Heartbreak Express) and backed by Milton Wilpon has been in the forming process over the last few months. The promotion, called the World Wide Wrestling Promotion, have signed several former WWE and TNA names to contracts in hopes of competing in the mainstream.
WWP officials have told talent they do not plan on being just another independent promotion and want to be able to compete with WWE and TNA Wrestling. Other company officials include businesman Pete Karoftis, Kevin Kleinrock (Wrestling Society X head booker) and Mister Saint Laurent (former Ring of Honor commentator and local Florida promoter).
As for the “snag”, an email went out to talent under contract this morning saying their “original time table is not at all feasible” and their planned October launch is now an “impossible goal”. All WWP contracts will be changed to include the new starting date which officials are hoping is in the “first part of the new year”. The announcement has cast doubts from several with big hopes for the project as signed talent will have to sign an addendum to their original deals. Several former WWE and TNA names have already committed their services in contract.
In hopes of retaining as much signed talent as possible, WWP has offered extra shares of company stock to talent that sign the new contracts which will also include details on their full health and benefits plan.
Today’s email included the news that WWP has signed a “major deal” this week that was not disclosed and the company could be on the brink of a bigger deal that will put them in a better position to launch the product.
